How Dr. Dre Discovered Eminem (Interview)

In this exclusive video Dr. Dre goes in-depth on how he discovered and signed Eminem. It’s truly and inspiring story. The clip features Dr. Dre with appearances from Eminem and Jimmy Iovine.

The short story is that Jimmy Iovine brought Dr. Dre to his house to listen to demo tapes of rappers. In the pile was a tape from Eminem. Jimmy Iovine randomly put Eminem’s tape in the deck and immediately Dre was blown away!

Keep in mind Dr. Dre thought Eminem was black, seeing that it is rap music and there we’re much white rappers at that time. When he met Eminem he said “Shit you’re white?” and they all fell out laughing. Dre was teased by many rappers and record label executives for trying to sign a white rapper. but Dre persisted and broke the stereotype that a white rapper can make it in the industry and sell millions of records world wide.

Were there white rappers before Eminem? Yes a handful but none where more talented and none has sold more records to date than him.
