5 Steps To Achieving Your Music Goals

artist career goals

Many up and coming artists out there wonder why they’ve been trying to make it but don’t seem to get far in the industry. One would conclude that there would be many reasons as to why this happens, and I think the biggest reason of them all is not setting goals.

A dream without goals is very detrimental. It’s like a ship sailing at sea with no clear direction on where to go. A women/man without goals is living life aimlessly; no direction in where their going and this is why they often fail to achieve anything.

As an artist you must have goals in order to know where you are heading and want to achieve within the music industry. And it’s important to right down your goals because during your journey you will be making amendments to your goals and if they’re not written down you can’t see what needs to be amended.

Another great thing about writing down your goals is that you get to check your accomplishments off the list. There’s no greater feeling than checking off your accomplishments and writing down another one to pursue and achieve. As an artist you have to be organized. You have to know where you’re going and what you want to achieve and take action towards it. Writing and recording songs aimlessly will get you no where. You have to organize, plan and execute.

Again, along the way you are going to have to make changes to your plans do to unforeseen circumstances. you will also have to deal with many adversities and pitfalls. The more organized you are the better you will be prepared to face difficulties that you will without a doubt face.

Below I have listed 5 ways that you can achieve your music goal and make it to the top of the industry!

music goals1. Set Your Goals

As I mentioned early this is the most crucial part of your music career journey. You have to set your goals so you have a specific idea of where you want to go and what you would like to accomplish within the music industry.

What are your goals as an artist? What do you want to achieve? How long do you plan to rap for? What are you rapping for? To make money or for the love? Do you plan to give back to your community?

Do you plan on investing your money once you make enough? If so what type of investments? What route do you plan to take as a rapper, the commercial or underground route? What subjects do you plan to tackle in your songs? etc.

You have to set goals in order to know where you are going. A big mistake that’s often made is artists want to create music aimlessly hoping they will get discovered. That is a horrible plan.

Sit down and take the time to write out down your goals in a notepad, this way in a month or two you can see your progress. If you are on point with checking some off the list, or close to it, good for you. If not then you know what you have to do. Grind harder. The more time you waste the longer it will take for you to achieve your goals.

2. Make A Plan

I often see up and coming artist that create a mixtape or album with no vision. They think it’s as easy as create music, upload it to Youtube or Soundcloud and all the fans in the world will come flocking to them. I’m sorry but it doesn’t work like that. Making it in music takes planning your projects, solid record and mastering, devising a marketing and promotion plan, social media advertising, performing, networking, collaborating etc.

3. Execute That Plan

This seems easier said than done. Most artist reach until this point and give up. it could be for a number of reasons like being to shy or fearful that if you try you will fail. I would say that if you don’t try you’ve already failed. if you don’t try you will be stuck in the same spot. If you try at least you have a shot at making it. you never know until you try so it’s best to give it a try.

You have to be sick and tired of being complacent in life and execute your plan with a passion. Executing your plan is the only way to obtain them, and you will get increasingly motivated and you start achieving them. Every achievement will give you more ambition to achieve more of your goals.

4. Be Persistent

Being persistent while pursuing your music goals are just as important as setting your goals. It will indeed get rough and you will be faced with many obstacles within the music industry. But if you toughen it out and stay focused on the path you will achieve every goal you set out to achieve. One thing to keep in mind is that the trails and tribulation are just temporary. Nothing lasts for ever.

I’ve seen so many artist try and give up when they’re so close to achieving their dreams. If they had just stick it out for a bit longer they would of got that record deal, or would of got that endorsement they so desperately needed. Stick to the course no matter how hard it may seem right now. Persistence always pays off.

5. Achieve Goal – Wash, Rinse, and Repeat

After you’ve set your goals, make a plan around your goals, execute that plan, and are persistent in the pursuit of the goals. You will without a shadow of a doubt achieve what you set out to achieve. One thing you shouldn’t ask is how long it’s going to take. The reason for this is because you will give up trying if you think you should succeed within a couple of months or even within 2 or 3 years.

Yes you want to be showing signs of progress and that will eventually lead to attaining your final goal. But you should never ask when. Whenever the time is right it will happen. It might be a year from now, or it might be 5 years from now. Whenever it happens you will know! once you achieve some of your goals, set new ones to achieve. This is how you advance in life and create a better situation for yourself and family.

Keep setting attainable goals and once you reach them set some more. It’s all about seeing how far you can take career and for how long. Stick to the plan and be persistent at it, and all your dreams will come true.
