In this day and age there is a creative outpouring of music not yet seen by the industry. While this is great for  labels, industry executives and the internet; It makes it harder for an artist to truly stand out of the pack.

How do you go about standing out and getting people to pay attention to your music? One part of it is being genuine with your music, having your heart in it fully and making it your craft. Another part of it is learning how to market yourself and knowing who listens to your genre and where they find new artists. A great outlet for that is music blogs.

Because there is so much new music, it can be a double edged sword for music reviewers. They have so many different genres and artists to chose from that they can really have their pick of the liter. On the other hand, there is so much that it can be overwhelming.

So many artists may look and sound the same that it makes it easy for them to write off many potentially great artists because of those similarities. This is where learning how stand out makes a huge difference.

Finding something that can make you unique is really critical to not only being reviewed, but to potentially having a career in music instead of a hobby.

So, you may be wondering where you can go to get a good music review. This isn’t an easy thing to do, and it shouldn’t be treated lightly. It is a vital thing to have your music reviewed as it can help bring new fans and more attention to your music.

A big part of it is learning how to use the internet to your advantage. Here’s a list of examples of how you can potentially get your music reviewed:

  1.  Learn how to use social media; like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Instagram, SoundCloud and Vine. Learning how to use these social media platforms can help you not only connect with fans, but also with music blogs and scouts.
  2.  Research potential blogs. Use outlets like HypeMachine and Elbo.ws, they can be a great place to start looking for blogs and sites that feature rap music.
  3. Find out what they require for reviews. Do they need new music recorded within the last three months? Do they review only artists that have a bit of a buzz already? It’s up to you to find out and meet those requirements so that you can get a review
  4. Keep an eye out for non-musical blogs too. Ones that cater hip hop fashion and lifestyle, this be a fresh way to get more fans.

Make sure that you stay organized and compile a list. Keep the information of these blogs and who to contact and who you’ve contacted in an excel file. When you do talk to them, be genuine and polite. Don’t beat around the bush, and don’t be pushy.

Professional courtesy will get you very far. If they do decide to review you, be very polite and be sure to thank them for taking the time to review your music.

If they don’t, don’t be rude or get  discouraged. If one music blog refuses to give you a review just keep pushing until one does. Persistence is the key to success!
