No Rhyming Skills, No Love!

I think that we would all agree that good music is hard to find now a days; not only from major artists but from a lot of up and coming artists as well.

As a music media company we get a lot of music submissions from artists who want to be showcased or promoted, and I would say that only about 5 percent of them actually have talent.

And that’s the main problem; everyone wants to be a rapper or producer even if they don’t necessarily have the talent to be one. And what’s worse is that every music media is letting them all in and its hurting hip hop music.

The reason why our company doesn’t allow artists to upload their music manually to our site, is because we believe in having a standard that artist should meet in able to be on our site. That’s how it should be in general when it comes to letting artist into the music industry. By raising the skill level requirement in order to get into the music industry artist will be forced to try and make good music. Because there is no current standard of skill requirement the majority of artists don’t make an effort to create good music.

Our company reviews music submissions at least twice a week and we find that the majority of the music sounds the same. Same style beats, weak repetitive hooks, and thoughtless rhymes. So what’s the remedy to all this? How can hip hop go back to sounding fresh, exciting, and original?

First of all I’m not saying that I want hip hop to go back to sounding like it did in the 90’s; that would be insane. I love how hip hop has progressed over the years and know that it will continue to be the most influential form of music on the planet! But in order for hip hop to progress there needs to be balance!

What I want is for music media companies to showcase artists in a fair and balanced manner. Music media platforms should not only showcase majors, but indie artists as well. Not just any and every indie artist but indie artist that have rhyme skill, come up with creative songs, and can be positive spokespersons for the hip hop culture.

As for our company, it looks like we have to be the ones to lead the way when it comes to this, so our stance is No Rhyme Skills, No Love! Meaning that if you’re an artist that has no rhyming skills you get No Love from us. If you’ve not creative or innovative in with the music you create you get No Love from us. If you don’t have dope beats or can’t rock a crowed you get No Love from us! It’s time to re-instate a high level of skill requirement in order for artist to get into the industry.
Let’s all work together to grow the culture we all greatly appreciate and love. And if we do that it will last for centuries to come.
