There are several rappers who went to college. Some of them dropped out but even more graduated. There is this common perception that rap artists are not too intelligent, but rightfully so because most rappers portray themselves not to be. It’s something that they have to perpetuate because it’s become part of rap’s image. In this article, I will list the rappers that have post-secondary education.

Rappers Who Went To College and What They Studied

Yo Gotti – Yo Gotti attended Southwest Tennessee Community College and took Business as his major.

Rah Digga – Rah Digga is a legendary female rapper who attended New Jersey Institute of Technology. Her major was Electrical Engineering.

Master P. – Master P. Changed the game in the 90’s and made way for rappers to get paid multi-million dollar deals due to him being one of the first rappers to get large amounts of cash from Universal Records. He attended the University of Houston and majored in Business.

Talib Kweli – know as a raptivist (rapper + activist) Talib has rapped and also publicly address social issues that black people face, including police brutality, poor schools, and little to no jobs. He attended New York University where he studied Experimental Theater.

Paul Wall – Paul Wall is known for his diamond grills and making some dope Houston music along with Slim Thug, UGK, and other affiliates. He went to the University of Houston and majored in Communication.

Ludacris – Ludacris knew he was destined to be within the music/ entertainment field. He went to Georgia State University and majored in Music Management.

Chuck D – Public Enemy number 1. Check D is a legendary political rapper that spread positivity and knowledge into the rap game. He attended Adelphi University and majored in Graphic Design.

David Banner – David Banner studied business at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. After graduating, he pursued a master’s degree in education at the University of Maryland and said he was one of the top five students in his class.

Rick Ross – Before creating a rap persona based on an actual real-life drug dealer. Rick Ross attended school at Albany university where he majored in Criminal Justice. He graduated and got a job as a Correctional Officer. As his music was blowing up he quit his job to pursue rap full-time.

Lil Wayne – The most prominent rapper of today that has blessed us with hit after hit for more than 20 years is also a post-secondary attendee. Lil’ Wayne first went to the university of Houston but as his music schedule became more demanding he had to drop out but continued with his schooling online at the university of Phoenix. He majored in psychology.

2 Chainz – Known for his flamboyant style and lingo 2 Chainz definitely added character to the rap game. He attended Alabama State university where he ended up playing a full season of Division I basketball. Like Lil’ Wayne he majored in Psychology.

Common – Known as one of the best conscious rappers in the game Common continues to enlighten the masses through rap songs and poetry. Our favorite conscious rapper attended Florida A&M University where he majored in Business Administration.

J. Cole – Before he became on of Roc Nation’s leading rappers he attended and graduated graduating Queens’ St. John’s University with honors. He majored in Communications.

Kanye West – The rapper we love to hate. Before showing us his arrogance and spewing his hour long rants on stage Kanye Was a humble kid from Chicago who attended Chicago State university. Like his mother he majored in English.
