The Hip Hop Preacher (Eric Thomas)

Eric D. Thomas who is widely known as the “Hip Hop Preacher” is an American motivational speaker, author and minister. He rose to fame when his motivational speaking videos on Youtube went viral.

Eric has a unique style of motivating people that is not like the traditional motivational speakers we come across. His style is up front, real, and to the point. It’s a tell it how it is style using his urban wit and motivational knowledge to inspire others. He earned the name “Hip Hop Preacher” through his urban style of motivational speaking making references to many hip hop artists.

Eric Thomas’ Life Growing Up

Eric Thomas aka the Hip Hop Preacher, was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He told the story of him getting into an argument After an argument with his parents and leaving his home in his teens. He then dropped out of high school and lived homeless on the streets of Detroit for two years.

While Eric was homeless, he met a preacher who inspired him to go back to school. He enrolled and started to go to school that fall. He also took a job at an Olive Garden on the west side of Detroit. Around this time of his life he met his beloved wife, De-De Mosley, at the Detroit Center Seventh Day Adventist Church. Eric and his then girlfriend moved to Huntsville, Alabama, attended Oakwood University, and they were married as college students.

Eric Thomas’ School Years

Eric Thomas’ educational story is a rather unique one. He spent twelve years working toward an undergraduate degree at Oakwood and finally graduated in 2001. While in Huntsville, Thomas preached and set up a program to help underprivileged youth.
