Today we delve into a unique topic that lists the Top 5 African Rappers. Unique because we have never created a list like this before, and searching the internet, not many other sites have done it before either. One of the things we must note is that our African brothers and sisters are huge fan of our site. Analytics shows that Africans are in the top 5 position of frequent visitors of our site.

What we have done is compiled a list of who we think at the Africa’s Top 5 Rappers so far. Next year the list may be different so stay connected!

5) Khaligraph Jones (Kenyan)

Khaligraph is a rappear from Kenya. He was influence by his older brother to start rapping. He really took rap seriously in 2007 and released his first track at the tender age of 14. Khaligraph is one of the rare mcees from his city that can rap in both English and Swahili, and it has given him an advantage as a rapper in his hometown of Nia. His music is influenced by daily occurrences and social issues.

 

 

 

4) M.I (Nigerian)

M.I or M.I Abaga, is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist, songwriter, and record producer. He won Best Hip Hop and Best New Act at the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards, and was nominated in the Best International Act category at the BET Awards 2010. He rose to prominence in 2006 when his song “Crowd Mentality” became popular in his hometown of Jos. His critically acclaimed debut studio album, Talk About It, was released on 11 December 2008. The LP was succeeded by M.I 2 (2010). Four years after that, he released his third studio album titled The Chairman.

3) Shukid (Kenyan)

Shukid is a rapper from Kenya and is pegged as the next best rapper out of East Africa. In 2009 he independently recorded and released his first mixtape entitled “When Kindom Come” which consisted of 10 tracks and no features. In 2011 he joined Coola Gang, a collection of artist that got together in the interest of creating music together and help empower other rising artists within the country.

 

 

 

2) ProVerb (South African)

ProVerb is an iconic South African Hip Hop recording artist, MC, Lecturer, Brand ambassador, TV and Radio Personality and also a father and husband. Pro started his rap career back in 1999, and over time he became renowned as being one of the few rappers who never cursed or used vulgar languages in any of his songs. His Music career boasts 4 amazing studio albums and one awesome Mixtape Album.

 

 

 

1) Mode 9 (Nigerian)

Modenine (Mode 9), is a Nigerian rapper and seven time ‘The Headies Lyricist’ on the Roll winner, he is the most decorated artist by the magazine. In 2014, he released a song titled “Super Human” with Jamaican-American rapper Canibus. Mode 9 currently has 6 albums to his name and is known to display great lyricism and an infectious energy.
