The Ultimate Rap League also known as URL started in 2003 with co-founders Tony “Smack” Mitchell and Eric Beasley. It started off as a magazine and a series of street DVD’s showing off not only well known rappers, but also the best up and coming rappers in neighborhoods around America. It showed the hip hop culture in its purest rawest form and everyone who was apart of hip hop was attract to it like moths to a flame.

SMACK’s DVD’s were laced with raw street commentary, beef, interviews and rap music. Many people think that SMACK stood for heroin, since “Smack” is the urban name for heroin. But SMACK actually stands for Street Music Arts Culture and Knowledge. Fast forward to today SMACK and Beasley have shifted their format from street commentary and rhymes, to a more structured approach in battle rap. Then the URL was born. This was an easy transition seeing that they had connects with the hottest up and coming rappers on the streets.

All they did was connect with those rappers, and gave them a platform to showcase their talent to the world. they did this by leveraging new methods of connecting with people; social media. They used Youtube, Twitter and Facebook to expand their brand and it worked like a charm. Soon enough they were filling up venues by the thousands and making enough money to turn URL into a viable business. With all the rap battle companies that have popped up over the years the Ultimate Rap League is still one of The Top 5 Rap Battle Leagues on the planet.
