JD Era
JD Era was born Joseph Dako on April 15, 1985. He is a rapper from Toronto, Ontario and he developed a love for music at an early age.
Growing up he had an eclectic taste for different genres of music, and enjoyed listening to everything from Jay-Z to James Brown. JD Era started rapping at the age of 14 and began making a name for himself throughout ciphers at local shows and concerts.
At age 16 Era began writing rhymes and entered and won his first freestyle competition. His passion for battling other emcees has gained him a reputation as one of the top freestyle lyricists in Toronto. This summer he solidified his reputation with a victory at the Mark Ecko Getting Up Festival’s Freestyle Competition.
Under the watchful eye of an energetic crowd and prestigious judges such as Mr.X, JD defeated 15 other emcees and emerged as the last man standing. This was one of the many highlights in his young and promising career.
JD Era was definitely making noise on the hip hop scene for a couple of years now, so much that he caught the attention on legendary Wu-Tang Clan rapper Raekwon. In July 2011 JD ERA inked a deal with Raekwon “The Chef” on his brand new label ICE – H2O, and since then has featured on a number of tracks with Raekwon and has dropped his most impressive mixtape to date entitled “No Handouts.”
JD Era with the backing of his label boss Raekwon is slowly gaining notoriety within the hip hop community as a talented up and coming rapper from Toronto, Ontario. They’re pushing to make him a household name, and if he stays on track he just might achieve just that!
