New Rap Artists of 2012

I think that this year is going to be another big year for hip hop. There are so many young new faces to look out for and a lot of them are really talented.

Some of my favorite artists out right now are Locksmith, Roc Marciano, Phil Ade’ and Clear Soul Forces, just to name a few. But there are a whole slew of other rap artists that are coming out this year that have captured the attention of popular labels such as Bad Boy Records, Young Money Cash Money Records and Maybach Music Group.

For example P.Diddy not too long ago signed French Montana and a kid that’s blowing up in a major way right now named Machine Gun Kelly. P.Diddy says he’ll continue to add new fresh young talent to the Bad Boy roster because that’s where the game is at right now. It’s true, the hip hop game is slowly turning its focus on the new generation of rappers, and urban labels as well as more international commercial record labels such as Universal are looking for the next best thing.

The turn in hip hop towards new rap artists always happens, it happens to create a new genre or new sound of rap music, it’s sort of like out with the old and in with the new. So this change period in hip hop where you see new rappers emerging on the scene is a good thing, and so far I see that hip hops new comers sound pretty good!

Not only is it a good time for labels to pick up new rap artist but it’s also a great time to be an independent artist! Don’t think that you have to be signed to a record label in order to shine. In fact rappers like French Montana has been putting in hard work as an independent artist for about 6-7 years before Diddy signed him. He was signed with Max B and even after Max B went to jail French Montana kept pushing his music out as an independent rap artist, and made tons of money and got tons of urban media coverage as an artist on the come up.

So you don’t need to be signed in order to make thousands of dollars or get major spins on the radio. As an independent rap artist you have to have talent, know how to market and brand yourself properly, and connect with the right music industry leaders to get the proper shine you deserve.

I’ve put together a small video of the new rap artists that are coming out this year. I only had time to do small edits to it so keep that in mind. I will be doing an extended version of this when summer hits to show what other new rappers and new rap songs to look out for.
