Today we tackle another question asked by an artist who is a fan of our site. The question was if the mixtape website Datpiff pay artists to have their mixtape up on the site? The answer is basically yes and no. In this post I will briefly go over what type of artists Datpiff pays, and which ones they don’t.

What Is Datpiff?

Datpiff is a website that hosts mixtapes from mostly up and coming rap artist and major label artists. Although at times they will also host mixtapes from reggae and R&B artists.

Is Datpiff A Good Website To Host Your Mixtape?

We wrote about this a few months ago, and would say that Datpiff has the recognition and brand of a great mixtape hosting platform. However artist have to try it out for themselves to see if the site will get their mixtape any type of buzz. From what we hear not many new artists actually get any plays or views from the site. But maybe it’s because of how they market their Datpiff link; who knows.

Does Datpiff Pay Artists?

Datpiff doesn’t pay any up and coming artist to host their mixtapes on the site, or any music royalties for their content. But Datpiff will pay money to popular rap artists to host their mixtape exclusively on their site and not a competitors site. They do to build traffic, popularity as a brand, and make money from advertisement clicks. In the end it all works out for them and the artists. Datpiff doesn’t sell any mixtapes either. You can not upload your mixtape and sell it on Datpiff.
