Top 5 Indie Female Hip Hop Artists

Got another hot post for ya’ll. In this post I am going to show you a video that I have put together of who put team thinks are the top 5 Female Hip Hop Artists in the rap game right now. As I said in a previous article listing The Top 10 Independent Rap Artists of 2013 There are many female rap artists on the rise that are on the rise, and are making some very impressive music.

There are some female rappers that can actually spit way better than 90 percent of the male rappers out there right now. And if you’re a true hip hop head like me, and listen to music every day, you would tend to agree with my statement.

Female rappers have always been the corner stone of hip hop. I know you heard of the female pioneers of hip hop such as Queen Latifah, Mc Lyte, Roxanne Shanté etc. So i won’t get into their history. These female mc’s have paved the path and given way for likes of Missy Elliot, Lauryn Hill, and of course Nicki Minaj. As I said many times the male rappers who have status in rap need to co-sign or put on these talented female mc’s. It’s rare to see a female rapper make it it the music industry without the strong presence of a major record label or a well known rapper or producer backing them.

The hip hop industry like most businesses are male dominant and in some cases are sexist towards women. Women who want to pursue a career as a rapper think that the only way to make it is to expose their body parts in order to make it big, because that’s what has happened in the past wit female rappers such as Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Trina and now Nicki Minaj. But what we are seeing is a paradigm shift, there are female rappers who are being more respected for their talent and lyrical abilities than how much ass and breasts they show.

Mind you these female artists still struggle to prove that their are more than their outer appearance, but for the most part music blogs and magazines are including more female rap artists into their conversations when it comes to listing great rappers. I really commend rap legends such as Dj Premier, 9th Wonder, and Timbaland. All known to support these new female artists. Again, more of our prominent male rappers and record labels need to be doing this. The female presence in hip hop creates a much needed balance that we just can’t do without!

With that being said we have come up with a list of the Top Female Hip Hop Artists in the rap game right now. Let me stress this point. These are not female POP Rap Artists! These are underground female hip hop artists killin’ the game right now@! No bumble gum dance/rap music. Strictly hip hop!
