Dope Fantasy

Dope Fantasy was launched in June of 2012 the group came together after years of hanging out and free styling with each other. Feeling the need to fill a void in the Chicago music scene the guys of Dope Fantasy came together to form a group.

Dope Fantasy is a diverse group from the south side of Chicago and each member of the group brings a unique and dynamic energy to the group and is extremely talented artist. For these guys there is no such thing as boundaries. They cover any and every subject and bring a different feel to each song. The members of Dope Fantasy all come from varying artistic backgrounds.

picdopeJay-R (John Robinson) was raised on the South side of Chicago where his early love for music and performance began. Jay-R the eldest of two had a diverse musical up bringing being surrounded by everything from Gospel and Soul to 80s pop and Rock.

During his high school years Jay R grew into his own, shortly after beginning high school a close friend of his was murdered during a home invasion, this taught Jay-R to be more appreciative of life and to find a purpose. Around Jay-R’s senior year he began to rap with one of his eldest cousins, they would later go on to form the group Dope Fantasy in 2012.

L's(Larry Parker)L’s (Larry Parker) was raised on the South side but moved to the East Side during his sophomore year of high school where he got deeply involved in the Chicago poetry and spoken word scene performing at various open mic shows. As he grew as a poet he began to branch out beyond doing spoken word and began to experiment with Hip Hop by freestyle rapping in the lunchroom and throughout the hallways of his high school where he would go on to meet one of his future group mates.

careera KoolCareera Kool (Julian Williams) got his start at a grammar school talent show. The feeling of his peers cheering for him on stage was irreplaceable. Listening to Tupac, bone thugs, and biggie at the age of 5 was a big influence including his older brother who rapped. In high school free styling, and battle rapping in hallways and during lunchtime became a hobby he enjoyed. Feeling that majority of today’s rap and rappers and have lost so much meaning and passion he decided to take this hobby a bit more serious. This is a very small part of how he got his start.
