22-year-old IamSu, born Sudan Williams, made a name for himself producing and writing the hook on LoveRance’s “Up!” Though the Bay Area native has been bouncing between various studios in recent months, he opted to keep things organic on his latest mixtape, KILT.
Recorded at his partner’s house with members of his crew, The Invasion, with beats by Trackademicks and the frat-rap group The Starting Six, Su asserts himself as a hip-hop tour de force with fluid, confident rhymes. “I picked KILT for the title [because] this is proving time for me right now,” says Su.
“It’s just about trying to be exceptional at what I do, about killing it every time.” Tracks span from laid-back, like the Jay Ant-produced panty-dropper “Get Your Money Girl,” to unmistakably Bay-bred trunk rattlers.
