Kendrick Lamar Receives California Generational Icon Award

kendrickIn a ceremony held yesterday (May 11th) in California at the State Senate building. Kendrick Lamar was awarded with the 35th-annual Generational Icon Award by Senator Isadore Hall.

Senator Hall told attendees that this year’s recipient is “giving voice to a new generation of urban youth” and “demonstrating the best of what it means to work hard, do well and give back to his community.”

Kendrick was appreciative and honored to receive the award, stating “It’s definitely an honor to be right here in front of you guys,” he said. “Being from the city of Compton and knowing the parks that I played at and neighborhoods, I always thought how great the opportunity would be to give back to my community.”

After the ceremony, Kendrick met with California’s Governor, Jerry Brown.
