Oh No (Underground Hip Hop)

Oh No, born Michael Jackson, is an underground hip hop artist from Oxnard, California who has released several albums under record label Stones Throw Records.

Oh No grew up in a musical family, he is the younger brother of hip hop artist Madlib, son of singer Otis Jackson, and nephew of jazz trumpeter Jon Faddis. Oh No was signed to Los Angeles-based Stones Throw Records back in 2004 when they released his debut album “The Disrupt.”

While gaining recognition from his debut release he saw it fit to feature on a number of singles by other artists, and began doing freelance production work for his label mates Madchild and others. Oh No has gone on to produce instrumentals for Murs, De La Soul, and various other artists.

In August 2006, Oh No released the album Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms, which exclusively sampled the music of Galt MacDermot who is a canadian composer, pianist, and writer of musical theater. He also had a number of features from various artists including appearances from his record label mates.

The album was well received by critics and established Oh No as one of the leading underground producers in hip-hop. In 2007 he released Dr. No’s Oxperiment to rave reviews. The album was entirely constructed using samples of Turkish, Lebanese, Greek and Italian music.

Oh No is set to release his new album entitled “Ohnomite” Which is as he explains is a conjunction of the words Oh No + Dolemite. He named his album this becasue he will be sampling sounds from Rudy Ray’s Dolemite. This album should be an interesting one filled with classic sounding beats and dope lyrics!
