Pharell & Robin Thicke Lose Court Case; Ordered To Pay $7.5 Million

ThickePharrellWEB_0Well it looks like Pharell & Robin Thicke will have to fork over $7.5 Million to the estate of Marvin Gaye,  due to copyright infringement.

In 2013, the hit single “Blurred Lines” which was recorded and performed by Pharell and Robin Thicke, was in the center of a huge lawsuit filed by Marvin Gaye’s Estate. The lawsuit was filed in August of that year in a California Federal Court.

Through out the whole ordeal Pharell maintained his innocence and production integrity by saying that the case was frivolous and that the Marvin Gaye’s Estate is trying to sue them based on a “Groove” which is not proprietary. “That’s what we’re dealing with,” Pharrell continues. “We’re dealing with the idea that someone feels like a groove is proprietary, and it’s not. Music is, and the notes are, and when you look at the sheet music, then you’d know.”

Well on Monday March 4th, 2015 a group of jurors disagreed with Pharell and ordered him and Thicke to pay $7.5 Million dollars to Marvin Gaye’s Estate. At the trial, Pharrell said the songs share “feel – not infringement,” the story says. “Blurred Lines” has reportedly generated $16.5 million. Gaye’s family had been seeking more than $25 million.
