Stir – PWARF (EP)

stir-PWARFKevin Wright also better known as his stage name Stir, is an American rapper from New Brunswick, New Jersey. He grew up listening to hip hop and some of his rap influences are Nas, AZ, Mobb Deep, Rakim, Kool G Rap, just to name a few. In 2002 his debut album “Stir Crazy”, was released; and in 2005 he produced a whole album for a local artist by the name Shawn Perry, which was quietly released on CdBaby.com.

And now in 2014 he has recently released a new project entitled “P.W.A.R.F” which stands for “Producer With A Rap Fetish”. All the tracks were produced by Stir and he has gathered up some of the best rappers in Baltimore to make a great classic various Hip Hop album.

 

Early Childhood Years

Growing up as an only child in a single mother household. His mother moved to Baltimore, Maryland to escape the rough life of the projects in New Jersey. Little did she know, that moving to Baltimore Md was no different. Poverty to poverty became a way of life for Stir. Without a father figure, Stir became addicted to the street life fast at the age of 15. Like Biggie said “more money more problems” growing up and getting fast money helped Stir in many ways but also brought many problems. At 18 Stir got in trouble with the law and was incarcerated for 5 years. While incarcerated Stir redirected his frustrations and energy into a positive outlet, which was music. He started performing for the inmates that was incarcerated with him in prison. He then discovered that his music and lyrics became therapeutic & motivational for others that felt the same pain and hardships that he encountered.

 

Musical Career

In 2002 Stir signed a proposal recording contract with Loud Records for $250,000 but that deal went sour because the Major label Sony drop Loud Records from their roster, and so did the project that was set to be released on Loud Records. During this controversial time with labels, Stir had a falling out with his manager and they both broke ties. Despite them no longer having a business relationship Stir’s manager secretly released his debut album “Stir Crazy” and it flopped due to the lack of support by Stir.

In 2007 Stir was faced with another disappointment when he got arrested for distribution of cocaine. He was sentence to 5yrs in prison. After his release in 2009 he’s taken on many roles including manager, producer and also rap artist. This year he released his new project entitled: P.W.A.R.F – “Producer With A Rap Fetish” All tracks were produced by Stir and to make it even more interesting he gathered up some of the best rappers in Baltimore to make a great classic various #HipHop album.

Once out of prison many deals were made and lost, artists were developed and produced but his vision of star quality that was acknowledged by renowned director Chris Robinson. After many mistakes and lessons learned This album is a Testimony of a higher calling and True talent in it’s Prime. The coming of this album is to unify local talents and showcase my production on a universal scale All tracks were produced by Stir.

 

Future Plans

Stir has experienced many trials and tribulations both in the music industry and throughout his personal life. But all of his past endeavors has allowed him to grow and become the person who he was destined to be; a great artist, producer and most importantly a mentor to up and coming artists within the industry. Stir says “After many mistakes and lessons learned this album is a testimony of a higher calling and true talent in its prime.” With a new perspective on things and much ambition, he plans on taking the music industry by storm, and becoming one of the greatest rap artist of this generation.
