XXL Freshmen Class List 2012

Here it is, it’s about that time again to get into XXL’s Freshmen Class List. Last years list was pretty good. Rappers like Meek Mill, Kendrick Lamar, Yalawolf, Mac Miller, and Fred tha Godson have really blown up and have continued to maintain their success.

I think XXL’s Freshmen list last year was more well put together than it was this year. This years list (2012) looks like it was just slapped together in 10 minutes.

I think that a few people on the list shouldn’t of been there. This is slowly confirming what the hip hop community is has been saying about XXL’s Freshmen Class List, that it’s really irrelevant and is starting to list rappers who are seen more as entertainers, than rappers who actually posses real skills.

I’m not ready to hop on the wagon and agree with that notion, I’m going to reserve my judgement for at least two more of XXL’s Freshmen Class lists. If they start putting together more lists like the one they did this year, then I’m going to be very disappointed in them. XXL magazine is still one of the best sources that puts out quality hip hop content, and if they start publishing bullshit, not only in terms of they Freshmen class list, but also in other areas of their magazine, then they are going to end up like The Source magazine!

This year’s list consisted of:

Future
Kid Ink
Danny Brown
French Montana
Macklemore
Don Trip
Machine Gun Kelly
Hopsin
Iggy Azalea
Roscoe Dash

I think the most on the list that have the most potential to blow up and have longevity are: French Montana, Future, Roscoe Dash, Kid Ink, and maybe Machine Gun Kelly. the rest I’m really not too sure about. I would of also added Schoolboy Q, A$AP Rocky, Roc Marciano, Phil Adele`, Slim Tha Mobster, LOS, and Smoke DZA just to name a few.

Anyway we’ll just have to see what next years list looks like to see if XXL brings the heat or flops again!
