Tory Lanez Says Fans Care More About Melodies Than Words

“It’s the feeling that matters.”

While Tory Lanez recently made headlines for his rap battle with Joyner Lucas, the Toronto artist is also known for his singing abilities.

In a recent interview with Hard Knock TV, Tory spoke about his recording process and explained that he starts off with the melody when writing songs because words aren’t as important to listeners.

“The words don’t really matter, bro. It’s the feeling that matters,” Tory said. “Nobody cares about the words. Lil Pump and Kanye West right now [got] little girls singing, ‘You’re such a fucking ho.’”

He continued by breaking down what makes “I Love It” so appealing. “Those kids aren’t saying that because they really know what they’re saying. Melodically, it just sounds right,” Tory explained. “You don’t care what the words are, you care about the feeling and the vibe of it and what it makes you feel like.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Tory shared that he develops the structure of his songs by saying “a bunch of bullshit” right after hearing the first three seconds of a beat. “I’ll do some weird shit that I just wouldn’t do, like I wouldn’t even think about saying. and I just say it in the weirdest way,” he said. “It just sounds so crazy that I end up keeping it. I just find these dope ass songs and melodies by doing that shit.”
