One trick rappers have used to record music while in jail is doing it over the phone. What they’ll do is call up their producer or manager and have them record their raps over the phone.

More times than not it’s just their raw voice Capella style, no beat in the background.

The producer then will take the raw vocals and lay it over a beat that matched the tempo and style of rapping. The will finalize it by mixing and mastering it all together.
