Keeping up with the theme of music marketing for artists, we come across a method called Google Adword Marketing.

Many of you have emailed us asking for some advice on how to actually set up a Google Ad campaign and have it run successfully. While others have heard of this type of method, they stay away from it because they think they’re going to loose money from it.

One thing I will say is that you can loose money from any type of ad if you don’t know what you are doing, and you haven’t done the proper research before initiating the campaign.

In this post i will give you a quick rundown on what Google Ads is and how you can use it to gain more music exposure.

What Is Google Adwords?

Google Adwords is an advertising platform on Google for businesses and individuals who want to display ads on Google. In order to do so you would have to set up a Google Adwords Campaign which includes a budget for advertising you only pay when people click on your ad. So in essence you set up and account, and set up a budget for money you will pay Google every time someone clicks on your ad.

When people search for something on Google they use something called a Keyword. A keyword in basic terms is simply a query. A search term used by a person who wants to look up a particular thing.

For example, if you want to know to know how to eat better, you will go on google and type the keywords “Healthy Foods To Eat” or “Healthy Foods For Those on A Budget” depending on your situation.

Those are keywords that bring up results. Your paid ads will show up at the very top of the search results; over the organic results. Or to the far right of the screen.

These positions allow your ads to get a good click through rate because they are very visible to searchers.

Keywords That Rank High In Search Results

In order to figure out what keywords to use in your campaigns that will make it searchable to users, you have to use something called a Keyword Tool. The Keyword Tool allows you to view the keywords that people are searching for on google. Your job is to pick those words, or variations of it so that your ad can show up over your competitions.

Another thing you have to keep in mind is not to pick keywords that are too competitive. Big business pay lots of money in advertising to own those keywords, and if you choose to use those same word; chances are your Google ads will get over shadowed by the big corporations. Pick medium to low competitive keywords for optimum success. Go and view Google’s Keyword Planner Tool to get started.

Setting Your Adwords Budget

As I mentioned earlier you are going to have to set a budget. Setting a budget allows Google to know how much you can afford to pay per click per day.

Once that number is reached Google will not allow any funds to be taken from your account. Your campaign will be placed on hold until the following day. Your budget is primarily up to you.

But remember you don’t want it to be too low, or your ads won’t be seen. And you don’t want to pay too much, because you will run out of money quick. Find a good balance.
