In hip hop today countless of rappers are launching either a new clothing line, headphone brand, shoes, or liquor line. Whatever it is these rappers are going to be making loads of cash because they have great influence in people’s lives because of the music they create, and lifestyle they portray. Last Kings is a clothing line from cash money rapper TYGA in 2014. The theme of the clothing line is to have decor and designs that evokes Egyptian history. If you look up the history you will find black people (Nubians) reigned in Egypt in the Pre-Dynastic era, and also the 25th Dynasty. they ruled for thousands of years until overthrown by invaders. This clothing line is a symbol of power and strength and will be around for many years to come.

Lil’ Wayne – Truckfit

 

Rapper Lil Wayne is can be argued as one of the best rappers of this time in hip hop. He has a catalog of hits and has singed two of the biggest rappers on the planet: Drake and Nicki Minaj. Even though he has been active in the Hip-Hop scene since the mid-90s, he has always been able to evolve and stay relevant with the times.

 

 

Lil Wayne has taken on many characteristics over his long rap career, which began in the mid 90’s with his crew and record label Cash Money Records. His current image is that of a heavily-tattooed, dreadlocked skateboarder; and his clothing line called Trukfit that reflects this persona perfectly.

 

Truckfit is a clothing line mainly for skate-boarders and street “Punks” so to speak. It has been running since 2012 and is doing relatively well. Personally I don’t like the brand and clothes. But as with everything else in life. To each his own.

Pusha T is one of my favorite rappers out since him and his brother Malice (Now No Malice) stepped into the game with the song “Grindin” produced by super producer Pharrell.

I loved their raw street sound over dope production. Now Pusha T has evolved so much into a business man, with being president of Kany West’s record label G.O.O.D. Music and having a clothing line called “Play Cloth”.

 

The clothing line has been around since 2008 and the inspiration for the brand was channeling the clothes that kids are allowed to wear when they get home from school and are granted permission to play outside. So there is a definite hint of nostalgia attached to the brand. It is very popular among teens and young adults, and looks like it will continue to excel as time goes on.

Next up on our list is a multi-talented man. He’s a producer, singer, rapper, visual artist. He’s none other than Pharrell Williams. His clothing line is called Billionaire Boys Club (BBC for short) and was founded him and his partners back in 2005. It became such a success that in 2011, Roc Nation head honcho Jay-Z and clothing manufacturer Iconix partnered with him to take the brand to the next level.

 

This urban wear is very popular and many of today’s teens and adults rock it. I personally own a few of the shirts and hoodies, and will continue to support this brands movement.

Nicki Minaj is and incredible artist and entertainer. She is part of the Young Money record label lead by Lil’ Wayne. She has won countless music awards, has solidified her spot as the highest selling female rap artist of all time, has her own endorsed brand “Myx Moscato” wine, and since 2013 has launched a clothing line collection with super store K-Mart. Her clothing line is Nicki Minaj For K-Mart. The prices are affordable and the styles still capture the Hip-Hop queens flashy style.

 

I respect that she went this route because not every girl can afford to buy expensive name brand clothes. by it being in K-Mart all girls who look up to Nicki can feel like they’re a part of her by wearing her clothes.

This man needs no introduction. He is hip hop’s richest Mogul and continues to expand his empire into Liquor (Ciroc Vodka) and television network Revolt. P. To be honest P.Diddy was one of the first from the hip hop culture to launch a clothing line, and he did this back in 1998. His clothing line is called Sean John, after his first and middle name.

Many hip hop clothing lines have come and gone, but the Roca Wear brand launched by Jay-Z and record co-founder Damon Dash back in 1999. This was a year after the success of P. Diddy’s brand Sean John. Since its launch Roca Wear has grown to see revenues of 700 Million (2007 figures).

 

 

 

There’s no doubt that Roca Wear is as popular as it’s ever been and will continue to grow and success just like the other ventures Jay-Z has taken on.

I feel like the other clothing lines such as Roca Wear and Sean John has lost a bit of appeal as time went on, but still could of easily been in top 3. AKOO came in a strong fourth place.
